THE CATEGORIES ARE

1. Newcomer Award
The Act who has made the biggest impact on the comedy industry in the preceding 12 months. This category will be for acts with a minimum of one year and a maximum of two years professional comedy experience.

2. Blackberry Breakthrough Award
The Act who has made the most impact in moving from a newcomer to an established act in the last 12 months. This will take into account: media coverage, digital presence, film and television work, radio, etc. This category will be for acts with a minimum of two years and maximum four years of professional comedy experience.

3. The Times Comic Pen Award
This is a new award, based on feedback from the Comics, and will be made to a recipient who is judged by the comedy community to have made the biggest contribution to comedy by their creation of original written/drawn work within the previous year. The nominee must have sold written/drawn material of any form within the previous twelve months, and must be verified by FIVE registered comics. Any written comedy (including reprinted cartoons) that has been sold for a FEE, be it for stage, television, print, radio or online is acceptable, provided the verification is given by all five registered acts.

4. Comic of the Year Award
This award acknowledges the Act who has made the most impact as an established comedian – by way of a one-person show, television production, radio, film or other forms of contribution to the comedy industry. This category will be for acts with a minimum of 4 years professional comedy experience.

5. Lifetime Achiever Award
This will be awarded to an act with 25 years or more experience in the industry, and whose work has been recognized as making a valuable contribution to the comedy industry.

6. Audience Choice Award
This award is not separate, but is slightly different, in that it will be awarded based on an sms-based vote by the public. Voting will be limited to 10 votes per unique cell number, and the winner will receive the statuette, but not the gold ring. ALL comics are eligible for the Audience Choice Award.
