It all started 60 years ago with the winning of a talent competition at the age of sixteen. I found my passion in life which was to be on stage and to entertain people. Taking advantage of every opportunity to be on stage, singing, telling jokes and even learning to play the double bass.

I qualified as a fitter and turner and even worked on the railways but I was not living my dream. In the early sixties I made up my mind to become a professional entertainer with the support of my young family.

Using all the local opportunities of playing at the pleasure resorts on Sundays to going on national tours with likes of Johnnie Kongos and the Four Jacks and Jill.

But it must be said it was the introduction of a little square box into the homes of the South African public that changed my life. A half hour program called Biltong and Pot roast changed me into a house hold name. It gave me opportunities to live my dream and to even do theatre with the Adam Leslie review.

I have always regarded myself as being an entertainer first before a comedian. I wanted to be part of every aspect of the entertainment world. I have done film, television, radio, cabaret, theatre and even realized the odd record.

I have done it all and still the greatest reward is hearing the laughter and the applause from an audience that tells me I have entertained them.
