Cy Saks originally from Durban, started his comedy career soon after high school in the 1950’s and was hugely successful in South Africa. He was well known for his one liners!
He is the first South African comedian to be hosted on Canadian TV and performed all over South Africa during his hay day with great success. The Bats accompanied Dusty Springfield on her South African tour in December 1964 and also sharing the stage was comedian Cy Sacks. Mention the name Biltong & Potroast to any person over the age of 30 and you will immediately get the reaction of either a smile or recognition of some sort or another. It was a show formulated for television in the earliest years of SA TV and to this day still enjoys the unique distinct accolade by many, being the finest Standup Comedy show ever produced in this country. Audiences all over the country constantly ask for the program to be re-run.
The infamous show featuring Cy Sacks, Len Davis, Mel Miller, Noel Glover, Cyril Green and others, was captured on tape at a live performance, many years ago and now released on cd. The comedians were allowed the latitude to act and react to a spirited audience in the language not understood by Kings and Queens. Fortunately, the original tape was discovered and led to these discs being released containing some of the funniest stories ever told in South Africa and no doubt funny by any standards anywhere in the world to this day.
Most of the South African Comedy elders have performed with Cy during his long and successful career.
